Agent Installation
This section provides the options to install the desired agents in the client or target machines. Agents are software programs using which you can discover your device in the ServiceOps Portal. Once the devices are discovered, you can later use them for asset management, patch management, package management, etc.
Motadata ServiceOps provides you with multiple options to install an agent. They are:
- From the ServiceOps portal
- Using GPO
- Using Utility
- Local Installation by using the download link provided here.
From v8.5.0 onwards agent-based discovery is not supported in Windows 7 OS. Hence, please use the lower version agents to perform the agent-based discovery.
The type of agents that you can install are:
- Discovery Agents
- RDP Agents
- Discovery + RDP Agents
You can install the Motadata ServiceOps discovery agents on the below platforms:
Motadata ServiceOps supports Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Using this the technicians can remotely access the client machine, analyze the issue, and resolve it soon. It is often used by the users working remotely, administrators, and the support technicians.
- In SaaS application, only RDP config type is supported.
- The following ports are required for installing an agent:
- HTTP - 80
- HTTPS - 443
- To install the RDP agent successfully, ensure that the MotadataRemote.exe file is downloaded in the target machine. In case, the Antivirus detects it as a malware, please exclude it from scan. For example, to exclude the MotadataRemote.exe File in the Bitdefender Antivirus refer to the document, How to Exclude Serviceops Agent from Bitdefender Antivirus Scan.
- Exclude the MotadataRemote.exe file from the Antivirus application.
- Add rdpapp and Remote folders at the below location:
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Motadata\Motadata RDP WinServer\rdpapp
- C:\ProgramData\Remote
To use a remote desktop session, you need to follow the below steps:
- Install the RDP server from the backend.
- Configure RDP in the ServiceOps GUI.
- Install the RDP Agent in the target machine.

Motadata ServiceOps agent supports installing of both discovery and RDP agents together using a single file. This helps the users who want to discover and use the RDP feature together to run only a single file instead of two individual files.
