How to start a live trail?

Overview

The live trail feature enables you to access all your log events in real-time from any source in your infrastructure that is sending the logs to Motadata.

Live trail can be used to check if a new deployment in your environment went smoothly.

Use this feature to see a real-time feed of log events associated with a source. Live trail shows the real time log events in white text visible very clearly over black background making the logs very easy to read.

Go to Menu, Select Log Explorer . After that, Select Start Live Trail from the top right corner. The live trail screen is now displayed.

Enter the following details on the Live Trail screen:

SourceSelect the source of the log for which you want to view the live trail.
Search TermsEnter the keyword(s) that you wish to search for from the live trail. Once you have entered a search term, the live trail will only display the log events that have the keyword(s) you specified
Highlight keywordsEnter the keyword(s) you wish to highlight from the live trail. The keyword(s) will be highlighted as shown in the diagram below.

Options On The Live Tail Screen

OptionDescription
Auto ScrollSelect the check-box to enable auto scrolling of the live trail of log events.
Start streaming/Stop streaming

- Select to start the live trail.

- Select to stop the live trail.

Clear LogsSelect this button to clear all the logs that have been generated on the screen via live trail.
More Actions

Select the button to display the following options:

- Preferences : Select this button to change the text size and line spacing of the log events in the live trail.

- Split Screen : Select this button to view live trail of two log sources at once in the screen.

- View Full Screen : Select this button to view the live trail of log events in a full screen.

- Create Log Parser Plugin : Select this button to start creating a custom log parser.
