Endpoints Overview

ServiceOps tracks each enrolled device as an endpoint. When you add a device to scope, ServiceOps deploys an agent, runs an initial scan, and creates an endpoint record. That record updates automatically after every scan. Use the Endpoint List to find devices by health, OS, or vulnerability count. Use the Endpoint Details page to investigate and act on a single device.

Prerequisites

Before you access the Endpoints section, make sure:

  • At least one device is enrolled via Admin > Discovery and Agents > Endpoint Management > Endpoint Scopes
  • The Motadata agent is deployed and active on enrolled devices
  • Your technician role has View permission for the relevant module under Admin > Users > Roles
Admin Setup Required

Before technicians can view endpoint data, an administrator must enroll endpoints and configure the agent. See Endpoint Management.

How Does Endpoint Management Work?

ServiceOps manages endpoints through a scope-based model. Adding a device to scope triggers an initial scan and creates an endpoint record. Each subsequent scan updates the record automatically.

Scans run on the following automatic triggers:

  • A database update
  • A new endpoint enrolled in scope
  • New discovery data received from the agent
  • A manual configuration change on the endpoint, such as a service start or restart

Removing an endpoint from scope removes it from the list and releases it from your license count. ServiceOps does not retain historical scan data after removal.

Example

Your team deploys a fix to a group of servers. You open the relevant module and filter to the affected endpoints. You open each server's detail page to confirm the patch is installed and the vulnerability count has dropped. The Audit Trail tab gives you a timestamped record of every scan and action on that device for your compliance report.
