VMware vSphere Distributed Switch Configuration

This document outlines the steps to configure VMware vSphere Distributed Switch for NetFlow export with ObserveOps Flow Explorer.

Configuration Steps

On the vSphere Client Home page, click Networking and navigate to the distributed switch.

From the Actions menu, select Settings > Edit NetFlow.

Set the Collector IP address to {MOTADATA_NETFLOW_SERVER_IP} and the Collector port to 2055.

Set an Observation Domain ID to identify the information related to the switch.

To aggregate all hosts under a single network device, enter an IPv4 address in the Switch IP address field.

Set the Active flow export timeout and Idle flow export timeout as required.

Configure the Sampling Rate as needed. A rate of 0 collects every packet; a rate of x collects one packet and drops the next x.

Click OK.

After completing the configuration, navigate to Menu > Flow Explorer and select Explorer to view the active flow data.
