VMware ESX Server 3.5 Configuration

This document outlines the steps to configure VMware ESX Server 3.5 for NetFlow export with ObserveOps Flow Explorer.

Configuration Steps

Ensure the VMkernel TCP/IP stack is configured and that a VMkernel virtual interface (vmknic) exists on the network where the collector is located.

Load the NetFlow module:

vmkload_mod netflow

Confirm that the NetFlow module is loaded:

vmkload_mod -l | grep netflow

Configure NetFlow export using the net-netflow utility:

net-netflow -e {VSWITCHNAME} {MOTADATA_SERVER_IP}:2055

After completing the configuration, navigate to Menu > Flow Explorer and select Explorer to view the active flow data.
