Glossary¶
- Department
- When the monitor is assigned to a department, only that department users can see the monitor. A monitor can belong to many departments also.
- Flow
- Flow is the data that transit in the network. It contains everything like: request from source host, destination response, count of requests etc.
- Log
- Logs are the traces of activity that system stores for any action performed in the network. The logs are used to determine what, where and how did something went wrong.
- Monitor
- Monitors are the network components (devices, logical entities, URL etc.) that has an IP address.
- Monitor Name
- The name of the monitor helps you identify any monitor. When a new monitor is provisioned, Motadata will show it’s IP address and host value as name of the monitor. You can change the name by editing the monitor.
- Poll
- Motadata sends the queries to the network monitors on scheduled intervals. The network replies back with relevant information.
- Polling Time
- The timestamp of reply by the network (for the scheduled queries sent by Motadata) is called polling time.
- Define your own label and associate with monitors. You can later filter and group the monitors based on these tags.
- Traps
- When any configuration/setting is changed in system, the activity is referred as trap.
- Type
- Shows the type of monitor. To see full list of monitor types, see ‘source type’ in Create Monitor Alert page.
